The Main Floor.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

We have been dying for a place with an open-floor concept. The kitchen is separated from the dining room by a granite bar and through the dining room is the living room. The main floor is where we spend most of our time, hence all the work we are putting into it. The living room fire place was the last thing to finish on our high priority list...

We removed the fireplace shield and the faux logs and what remained was an old, half-painted, mess the previous renters had left. We were originally going to fill the fireplace with stacked logs but decided to paint it instead. The living room needed some contrast from all the fresh white on the walls so we chose the color "cracked pepper" by Behr, for the inside of the fireplace.

We are HUGE fans of bookshelves next to, around, in, on, or near fireplaces so this was the perfect opportunity to do just that. We had floating bookshelves from Ikea leftover from our move and they fit perfectly right between the wall and fireplace.

Both projects were simple and quick and add so much character to the space. The main floor is now relatively complete, and we are ready to have a house warming party! In case you didn't have a chance to see the pictures of what the fireplace looked like before we moved in; here's the before and after!

We're still looking for a larger mirror and other odds and ends but its come a long way!

one of those extravagently white molded mirrors would look amazing!

what a great idea to put they shelves there, they look totally natural and at home in that spot!

Great transformation of the fireplace. The floating shelves look like they have always been there. Glad to see Pioneer Woman found a spot right on top of the stack. HA
