This painting job was pretty horrible, so not many before pictures were taken- just iphone photos (excuse their grainy-ness). Lots of painting and pizza eating!
Right when we moved in, our house was pretty raw. It had been beaten down by the 4 person family that lived there, and in need of a general pick-me-up. The biggest problem was the pink and blood red walls, a problem we also had in our previous apartment. What is with people choosing these offensive colors? Our landlord told us he saw on HGTV that people loved bold red colors. Uhh I must have missed that episode?!?
We swear by Behr paint with primer, it really covers well and does the job right. We knew we wanted a bright, fresh, white (everywhere but the kitchen). After a lot of paint chip comparing and scrutinizing, we ended up choosing the basic white (i think 'fresh white' or something).
Once we started painting the walls, we realized how disgustingly yellow the trim was. So of course we had to go the extra mile and paint the trim. He’s the cut-in guy, I’m the roll-and-go girl, together we can get it done relatively quickly.
For the kitchen we wanted to break it up and choose something light but not white. We at first thought maybe a blue, then we thought maybe a green, then we thought maybe a gray. We brought home numerous paint chips and stared at them- as if they'd just speak to us. Well none did!
We had a gallon of paint in the basement, I had picked it up for $5 from the 'oops' section at Home Depot. Turns out this is the color we've been dreaming of! Light in the day, a little darker at night, perfect shade of blue mixed with gray!
We also switched out the hideous plaid, ruffly, smelly, back door curtain (you may remember seeing it here). We had a similar door at our old house, so this simple recycled curtain does the trick and makes a huge difference.
Along with the walls, we painted the fireplace white as well and the transformation is incredible. (See the old one in this post.) With all the great light from the windows and the fresh white paint, this place really shines. We are all moved in and can't wait to get into decorating this great space.

Gorgeous! Crazy amazing how a $5 gallon of paint can transform an entire space. And your living room looks beautiful too. So calming.
