summer must dos.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Looking at last summer's 'must dos' I was surprised that we've actually crossed off a few of the big ones throughout the winter/spring.  Last year's list included:
-Make weekly bread
-Collect rainwater
-Start canning
-Dry out produce
- Start composting
-Make my own salsa recipe, food processor style
-Dry and jar herbs

*Biking to work- prepped w lunch, green smoothie, and library books.  Potting a few seedlings for the garden.
The things we have accomplished seem so substantial; collecting rain water- such an awesome feeling to water your garden with free water! We've also started composting- with a primarily vegan diet we accumulate a ton of green waste so our compost seems to be turning fairly quickly.

This year I'm hoping to grow a lot more herbs and produce, along with the CSA we signed up for, we should be more than covered.  Hopefully we'll have more opportunity to can and dry out goods for the winter.  We've also been looking into dehydrators but haven't pulled the trigger yet, this Excalibur one seems to be the favorite.

So far this summer's 'must dos' include:
-Bike ride to work as much as possible
-Canoe/kayak at least once
-Keep up with the garden and yard work
-Sprout things
-Consume less
-Travel somewhere
-Purchase a dehydrator
-Can tomatoes and other produce
