2014 Garden.

.
Our 2014 gardening season has begun.  On Saturday my mother in law and I did our annual seed starting.  We're trying a bunch of new veggies this year like brussels sprouts, popcorn, potatoes, and onions.  With all the extra seeds we ended up using two green houses this year, rather than our normal one.  Along with the new seeds, we also have all the regular veggies like tomatoes, beets, beans, lettuces, peppers, etc.
I wanted to go outside my veggie comfort zone and try some berries this year.  Since we have so many backyard renovation decisions to make, the berries are currently potted but will move into the ground later this spring. We're trying two types of blackberries, giant blueberries, raspberries, and marionberries. (Our porch is newly stripped, see the astroturf version here. )
A little after bike ride bird watching in the spot of our future garden
Eric built us that nice big compost bin (next to the shed) out of pallets and some old wood left in our garage.  The next project will be building our raised beds so we can get our potatoes and onions in the ground asap- our other seedlings will have a bit longer. This weekend we are taking down one of the decks on our property and using the wood for raised beds.  Our garden will hopefully go right in front of the shed and will have a tall fence around it since we're in heavy deer territory.
