The Best Flea Find of All Time.

Monday, August 8, 2011

When we spotted this rug, thrown roughly on the ground at the flea market, I’ll admit I was afraid to ask the price.  Being one of the cheapest people alive combined with the fact that I only had a few dollars left, I didn’t want to get let down by some outrageous price tag.  When the man blurted out ‘you can take it for $10” I was trying to hide my excitement. Score!  Although at this point we only had $8 dollars left, shoot!  Thankfully the man wanted to get the cash and run, so he took the $8 (handed over in all ones and change- what’s wrong with me?).

(Here's a glamorous picture of the full monty laid out on Eric's parents deck.)

When I purchased this wool woven beauty a few weeks ago there was no immediate spot for it to go, but for a quick eighter the rug could hang out.  Thankfully we now have a dining room and this baby will get to show off sooner than we thought.

Only problem was when we got the rug it was totally dirty, I guess it was thrown on the pavement when we bought it.  Since the rug held a current value of $8, I wasn't willing to pay the $180 most places were charging for cleaning.  A deal was finally found: $24.50 for on site cleaning!

I had the rug cleaned last weekend and she's looking brighter and better than ever, only problem is she's now sitting in an empty dining room.  Thus, we have no dining room furniture, but don't worry the hunt is on!

Cost breakdown:
8x10 Rug: $8
Rug Cleaning: $24.50
Total: $32.50 (Can’t beat it!)

GREAT FIND. Guess I've been at the wrong flea markets.

Where are you based? I was wondering if it's Baltimore, because of the Belvedere here. If it is Baltimore, I must know the flea markets you go to!

Dear anonymous, it's not Baltimore, but if we ever go there you'll have to give us all the flea scoops!
