Light up My Life (and My Bedroom).

Thursday, September 22, 2011

This past weekend Eric, my dad, and I visited a huge flea market 'extravaganza' (their words not mine, but it is acres of vendors!).  Eric is going to write a separate post on the goodies we spotted while there, (so many inspiring things!).

Here's a little somethin', somethin', I picked up while there: an amazing Japanese wood and paper lantern. It's so neat, it has a little sting pull in the bottom, and two separate light bulbs for different brightnesses.
I was looking for a little light to compliment the ancient paper lantern lamp we already have.  I snagged this gem for $15, down from $19.  The lantern accompanies a few of my favorite books (She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb- if you're looking for a good read), along with a little pottery, and a Japanese vase.
Eric's night stand holds the old lantern light, a Big Ben alarm clock, some House & Home mags, and a giant E.  Right now we have the cheapy ikea nightstands, but we're keeping our eyes out for something nicer (but still on the cheap!).
While I'm at it, I'll just show you around a little bit.
I'm a little coo-coo about changing my sheets (every Sunday), and really like to mix it up with different patterns and prints.  These striped Martha Stewart sheets, (I scored at the thrift store recently, if we're being honest!) are the bomb right now, so crisp and such a great pattern. Bounus: they match perfectly with my grey bed skirt.
An entire wall of windows at either end of the room makes it feel like you're in a beach house with all the bright light. (No curtians have been hung yet, case of the undediced-eds.)

We haven't done anything to the bedroom yet- the mossy green walls really aren't pretty in person.  Since we really don't spend very much time up there, we're both fine giving the paint brushes a rest for now (they've gotten so much action elsewhere.)
