New House.

So...

I posted this on instagram with the caption 'House hunting, its a good one', a couple of weeks ago.  It indeed is a very good one.

We've actually been house hunting for over a year now.  Since we have a long and detailed list we've only actually walked through a handful of houses.  Our extremely exhaustive list includes:

-Mid century, interesting architecture

-Open floor plan, public living area and private sleeping area seperate

-Land, space, privacy

-Smaller, efficient space

-Close to the bike trail

-Area for veggie gardens

-Ability to renovate and make our own, with a good base to start from

-Original details

-Big windows, lots of light

Basically the list goes on and on- we're super specific.

We're looking for the opposite of the American dream- less space, older, less renovated.  We want to live simpler with less stuff, focus more on living and less on managing our stuff.  

All this mumbo jumbo boils down to the fact that, yes, we bought a house!

Eric actually wanted to see the house and I didn't, I lost a bet so we went to see it.  When we walked in I changed my mind completely, we went back the next day with a contractor and made an offer a couple of days later.  It took over 2 months to finish negotiating and settle on a final closing date, but it was worth the wait.

Two bedrooms, one bath, 1964 modern ranch.  Lots of original details, floor to ceiling windows, one acre, a pool, mature landscape. Here are some pictures quickly snapped on our first walk through:

To the right is a screened in porch off the living room, left are the bedroom windows from the backyard view. That is an 80s hot tub on the porch- yikes, that's got to go.

The pool kind of reminds me of the pool from the original Parent Trap movie, a small cement walkway around it, stuck in the middle of the lush yard.  It's currently green and slimy in the pool, but thats ok with us.
Hard to see in this picture, it is the living/dining room that opens on to the screened in porch.  It's in rough shape, but much better in real life than it looks here.

On the opposite side of the last picture/living room is the kitchen.  Open to the living and dining area.

Master bedroom.  The light in here is one of my favorite things, behind me here is all floor to ceiling windows.

This is the only photo of the second bedroom I had taken, kind of dark but I really like how you can see the pretty (currently neglected) landscpae right out your window.  There are built in shelving brackets on the wall, how very functionally mid century.

 All in all it needs of lot of work, there were renters living here the past two years, hence the green pool and lack of yard work.  But its has great bones, good storage, and feels good when you're in there. 

Currently we're giving her the ol' deep clean this weekend then new windows (hopefully) start to go in this next week.  After that we move in and projects (i.e. lots of painting) starts. We'll also be planting our apple trees in the backyard to start towards our sustainable goals.
