My dad and I are very, very, similar- we enjoy tons of the same things.  Other than the regular things, like great coffee, excessive tv watching, and stress relieving workouts- we both love home decor.  More importantly, the hunt for unusual home decor!

A few weekends ago, when visiting my parents, my dad gifted me a few items he wasn't currently putting to use. Whats even better, is that each item has a story and history, which makes our house just a little bit richer.

This gorgeously colored poster is from Japan, where my dad does a lot of business.  It was put up to announce some event being held in his Japanese office.  Since he loved the graphics so much, he ended up taking one home and framing it.
(Say hi to Lennie, our naughty cat boy- he wanted to model like his sister.)

These deer skins are just my favorite!  Not only am I already attracted to animal furs, skins, antlers, etc.- but these deers are ones that my dad hunted as a boy.  When helping my grams clean out her attic recently, they discovered a large bag full of these deer skins.  My grandma kept them all these years thinking one day she would make a coat, she never ended up doing it, so she passed them on.  I'm not sure where we're going to use them yet, but I just think they are so cool.

 Raw edges and all.

My dad travels to Japan a lot (hes actually there right now, hi dad!).  He is always picking up interesting little things on his travels, he brought home this little birdie postcard from one such trip.  I love the poppy colors- they are muted in the photo, as compared to real life.  Bonus points for the fact that he made the frame himself- now that's talent!  These sticks from the backyard really hit the bird theme home, haha. (Sticks are my new 'thing', weird I know- see another one here.)

He also gave us a giant stack of House & Home magazine, a magazine we're so very fond of.  Being the magazine hoarder that I am, I realize what a great feat it is to give up some of the best magazines.  We've been enjoying them so much, that they are all over the house.  A small stack is in the living room, some are on nightstands, and some have even been traveling around in my purse!  Here's a small stack hoisting up my thrift store lamp.  (Notice my favorite planter- a coil pot made by my younger sister, so sweet!)

What I'm really trying to say here is, my dad is the best!
