Farmers Market Sundays.

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Even though we normally buy lots of extras outside of our CSA share, this week was the first week we needed to pick out all the veggies ourselves since our summer CSA ended.  I was surprised by how much we were able to get for only $2 more than our CSA share.  Plus fall brings lots of root veggies back in season, yum.
For a total of $27 here's what we got:
Mixed salad greens
Two handfuls of jalapenos and habaneros- for hummus and everyday cooking
6 bell peppers
Spaghetti squash- we've been living on this stuff, so good with homemade tomato sauce
Celery- never seen this at the farmers market before
Mixed apples- we buy the 'mixed basket' to try as many of their varieties as possible
5 chunky carrots- the earthy smell on these is so great
Cilantro- back in season- whoo-hoo
4 roma tomatoes, 4 regular tomatoes- which still need some ripening up

The counters end up looking like this on Sundays- lots of veggies last for multiple weeks, i.e. sweet potatoes, squash, garlic, so we buy in bulk.
